Tea Bag Analogies
Tea Bag Analogies

This workshop focuses on creating small paintings using dyes, ink and acrylics. We will use lots of contrasting colors for punch. We will start with simple images of trees and mountains with snow and work up to animals and hopefully time for a character. I will walk through the process of creating, transferring and creating a dual image (a monoprint from the teabag).
We will discuss the relationship between the two images and the mirror effect that occurs when transferring from the teabag. We will discuss what an analogy is (a comparison between two things.

Samples and examples of framing and using wire to hang cloth will be available.
Students will leave with art on antique cloth and beautiful music sheet art that can be framed.

  1. Techniques such as blind contour drawing, doodling, upside down techniques, and opening the brain to drawing images.
  2. Experimentation with dyes, acrylics and ink with the use of water.
  3. Each surface reacts differently to water, dyes and acrylics. This is also pure experimentation and fun!
  4. Certain colors will retract while others will interact with each other.
  5. Study of the color wheel will be discussed. Complimentary, primary, secondary and mixing (with white and dark) will be visited.

Instructor: Annie Allen Clark
Annie began her career 50 years ago as a youth on a farm in Havre Montana. The land spoke to her at an early age and continues to speak to her today. Connections to the land and the energy that surrounds the land ignite the art process within her. These connections provide the fuel and passion to create meaningful art work. Annie has explored combining different mediums, dyes and techniques on varying surfaces including fibers, wood, and paper. This allows a rich diverse tapestry of color to prevail in her work. Annie has developed art programs for all age groups centered on using environmental techniques that work with surrounding land, vegetation and water, ran a gallery (Roasted) that built a strong foundation for the arts in rural Montana, and worked through the Montana Arts Council as a coach for the MAP program.
