Celtic Ogham Alphabet Workshop
Celtic Ogham Alphabet

This workshop will focus on the history and development of the Ogham Alphabet. We will use the book material from “The Healing Power of Trees” by Sharlyn Hidalgo. It is a great accompaniment to the Tree of Life but students can take either/or and benefit from the information. Print outs will include the Ogham alphabet and the meaning behind each symbol. We will choose colors to create a background (landscape or sky) on our mineral paper. We will be practicing the alphabet on regular paper with black ink pens. After practicing our names and/or phrases or quotes we will choose one that will be recreated on our mineral paper backgrounds. Examples of my own Ogham creations will be used to stimulate and encourage.

This process can be etched on sticks or stones. It can also be written vertically (read from bottom to top) or horizontally (read from left to right). An arrow shaft (or marking of choice) indicates where to begin reading. A bit of history about the alphabet will be presented including the markings along the stem line: Druim or “Whales Backbone”.

Instructor: Annie Allen Clark
Annie began her career 50 years ago as a youth on a farm in Havre Montana. The land spoke to her at an early age and continues to speak to her today. Connections to the land and the energy that surrounds the land ignite the art process within her. These connections provide the fuel and passion to create meaningful art work. Annie has explored combining different mediums, dyes and techniques on varying surfaces including fibers, wood, and paper. This allows a rich diverse tapestry of color to prevail in her work. Annie has developed art programs for all age groups centered on using environmental techniques that work with surrounding land, vegetation and water, ran a gallery (Roasted) that built a strong foundation for the arts in rural Montana, and worked through the Montana Arts Council as a coach for the MAP program.
