Hidden Symbols in Nature Printmaking Workshop (TWO DAYS)
Dates: June 14th & 21st
Time: 10:30am - 2:30pm
Location: Room 18
Age: 8+
**All Supplies included, please bring lunch or snack if needed**
The class will be held on two consecutive Saturdays.
The first Saturday will be designing symbols that represent nature through your eyes and memory. Questions to ask yourself during this workshop
  1. What in nature inspires and centers me?
  2. How would I represent these thoughts through symbols?
  3. Examples might be sun, flowers, or trees.
These symbols will be transferred to soft-cut printing blocks and cut out using lino-cutting tools. Instructions on how to carve on soft cut and examples of techniques will be given.
The second Saturday will be using our prints on a canvas surface with lightweight gesso. This will leave a hidden symbol on the canvas which will be revealed through dyes and water. Our subject matter will be landscapes with the option of wildlife being set in. The final step will be using acrylics that have been watered down to finish the painting.

Instructor: Annie Allen Clark

Annie began her career 50 years ago as a youth on a farm in Havre Montana. The land spoke to her at an early age and continues to speak to her today. Connections to the land and the energy that surrounds the land ignite the art process within her. These connections provide the fuel and passion to create meaningful artwork. Annie has explored combining different mediums, dyes and techniques on varying surfaces including fibers, wood, and paper. This allows a rich diverse tapestry of color to prevail in her work. Annie has developed art programs for all age groups centered on using environmental techniques that work with surrounding land, vegetation and water, ran a gallery (Roasted) that built a strong foundation for the arts in rural Montana, and worked through the Montana Arts Council as a coach for the MAP program.
