Veteran and Active-Duty Art Program: Beginning Basket Weaving
Discover the timeless art of basket weaving in this beginner-friendly class designed for those with little or no previous experience. Participants will learn the basic techniques of weaving a simple round basket while gaining an understanding of essential tools, materials, and weaving methods. This fun, hands-on project provides a relaxing and creative introduction to basket making, and each participant will leave with a completed basket and the confidence to continue exploring this traditional fiber art.
About the Instructor
Beginning with a third-grade introduction to embroidery, Cathy Marquard developed a lifelong passion for fiber arts that has grown to encompass weaving, spinning, knitting, felting, silk painting, embroidery, embellishment, and numerous other textile techniques. Throughout a distinguished 46-year career as a Licensed Practical Nurse, healthcare professional, and business owner, Cathy remained deeply committed to Montana's fiber arts community through leadership, education, and volunteer service. She has exhibited her work in numerous galleries and regional shows across Montana. As an instructor, Cathy has taught at regional fiber arts conferences, festivals, fairs, and community education programs, sharing her expertise and encouraging others to discover the creativity and craftsmanship of fiber arts. Her dedication to preserving traditional techniques while inspiring new generations of fiber artists reflects a lifelong commitment to artistic excellence, education, and community engagement.
